Welcome to the Buffalo Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians website. We are known as the Church Musicians' Guild in the Diocese of Buffalo. The Guild fosters the art of musical liturgy, and its members serve the Catholic Church as musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of prayer. Welcome to our community of music.

CMG Festival Liturgy, Awards and Reception Coming May 17

The Church Musicians Guild will hold its 2018 Closing Mass with annual meeting and presentation of awards on Thursday, May 17th at 7:00 pm at St. John Gualbert Church in Cheektowaga. Music for the liturgy will be provided by the combined choirs of St. John XXIII Church, Blessed Trinity Church, and the St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum.

The Cecelia Roy Kenny Award for outstanding service will be presented as well as other recognition awards. A reception will follow.

Kawalec Organ Scholarship Auditions Set for May 7

On Monday, May 7, 2018, the Guild will host auditions for the 2018 Kawalec Organ Scholarship at St. Benedict Church in Eggertsville. Joanne Jasinski and Jeanne Suski are the Scholarship chairpersons.

The scholarship will be awarded to a successful organist who is committed to music ministry within the diocese of Buffalo. Previous winners may audition a second time and musicians who are primarily pianists will be considered.

The audition will comprise three parts: an interview, demonstration of hymn playing on the organ and performance of one major piece of literature for either the piano or organ.

Over 100 Voices Combine at Diocesan Choral Festival

The Church Musicians Guild of Buffalo presented the 2018 Choral Festival Concert on Sunday, March 11th in St. Louis Church. The concert featured individual performances by the choirs of All Saints, St. Benedict, St. Katharine Drexel, and St. Louis Churches, as well as the St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum and the St. Joseph Cathedral Choir. All choral participants joined for a finale performance under the direction of Frank Scinta of works by Christiansen, Praetorius, Bach, and Vaughan Williams.


Fr. Ricky Manalo Inspires Guild Members at Convocation

The 2017 CMG Convocation was held on November 3 & 4 at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora. The featured presenter was Rev. Ricky Manalo, CSP, Ph.D., a Paulist priest and a liturgical composer.

Fr. Manalo spoke on the topics: "Bearing Gifts Among Us: International Ministers and Parish Life Today" and "Come to the Feast: Nourishing the Assembly, Nourishing our Souls". Included in the Convocation were breakout sessions for choir, cantor, piano and guitar. Friday evening featured a beautiful concert by Fr. Ricky with the Our Lady of Hope Youth Choir under the direction of Jennifer Serniuk.
